What is Steiner Education?
“The task of the early childhood educator is to adapt the practical activities of daily life so that they are suitable for the child’s imitation through play…. The activities of children in early childhood must be derived directly from life itself rather than being “thought out” by the intellectualized culture of adults…. The most important thing is to give children the opportunity to directly imitate life itself.”
— Rudolf Steiner, The Child’s Changing Consciousness
What is Steiner?
Waldorf Steiner education is an educational philosophy developed by Rudolf Steiner in the early 20th century. It emphasises holistic development, creativity, and a deep connection to nature.
In Waldorf Steiner schools, the curriculum is designed to meet the developmental stages of children, integrating academic subjects with artistic and practical activities. The approach values experiential learning, storytelling, music, movement, and hands-on exploration.
Waldorf Steiner education also emphasises the importance of nurturing each child's individuality and fostering a sense of community. Teachers aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment where children feel valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.
Overall, Waldorf Steiner's education seeks to cultivate well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also creative, compassionate, and socially responsible.
Academic learning
In addition to fostering creativity, we seamlessly integrate academic learning into daily routines. Our rich oral environment promotes language development, phonemic awareness, and storytelling skills. Numeracy skills are honed through activities such as counting, sharing, and simple calculations. Fine motor control essential for writing, is developed through hand crafts, while gross motor skills are enhanced through movement activities, laying the foundation for understanding concepts related to print and directionality.
By providing a holistic and enriching early childhood experience, in our daycare we prepare children for a lifetime of creativity and learning, setting the stage for successful academic pursuits in their primary years.
A Holistic Approach
Fostering creativity
Discover the transformative power of early childhood education at our Steiner Daycare. Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that the first form of learning begins during the early years, when children are deeply connected to the world around them. At this stage, they learn best through play, a concept emphasised by Piaget as the essential 'work' of childhood.
Our playgroups, preschools, and kindergartens provide a nurturing environment filled with rhythmic activities, storytelling, crafts, and self-directed play. These experiences are the cornerstone of childhood development and are fundamental rights for every child. Through imaginative play, children explore limitless possibilities, transforming everyday objects into fantastical creations like fire engines or space ships.
